Andaman & Nicobar Island

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a union territory of India, consist of 572 islands, of which only 38 are inhabited. These islands are divided into two primary clusters: the northern Andaman Islands and the southern Nicobar Islands, separated by a 150 km (93 mi) wide channel. The capital and largest city, Port Blair (officially known as Sri Vijaya Puram), is situated approximately 1,190 km (740 mi) from Chennai and 1,255 km (780 mi) from Kolkata on the Indian mainland. Geographically, the islands lie between the Bay of Bengal to the west and the Andaman Sea to the east, with the northernmost point located 901 km (560 mi) from the mouth of the Hooghly River. Indira Point, positioned at 6°45’10″N and 93°49’36″E on the southern tip of Great Nicobar, marks the southernmost point of India.

Each of the 38 inhabited islands within the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago possesses its own unique charm, culture, and character. Visitors can explore pristine beaches, engage in adventurous water sports, and discover historical monuments amidst lush tropical forests, each island providing a distinctive travel experience. While many islands remain largely untouched, preserving their natural beauty, others have been developed to include modern tourism facilities, ensuring convenience and enjoyment for travellers.
